An award-worthy performance from Will Smith as Richard Williams fuels this incredibly detailed and emotional story about one of the greatest pairs of athletes to ever play their respective sport.
Venus and Serena Williams were raised in Compton to play tennis and become superstars. Their father, Richard Williams, who wants nothing but success for his children devised a plan for each one and pushed them to their absolute limit. When Venus and Serena start to take large strides in the world of tennis, Richard pushes harder for the plan to become reality.
I know nothing about tennis, and I’m sure a large portion of the audience is the same, but everybody knows who Venus and Serena Williams are. Serving as executive producers on King Richard, alongside one of their half-sisters, this story has an executive seal of approval for authenticity, which makes it that much more enjoyable. Will Smith delivers one of his best performances in years and Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton as Venus and Serena display vast amounts of range and skill.
King Richard is currently in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.
