Per my last blog post, I just got married! I’ve been dating the same person for 14 years and in our time together, I’ve had to come up with about a thousand movie night ideas. Other people have asked me for suggestions for date night so I thought maybe a Letterboxd list would be helpful to share.
So what’s on this list? Well, it’s a little bit of everything including:
Classics, entry-level sc-if, romance, comedies, and spooky (not scary) stuff. It should be everything you need to find a movie for date night. If you’re not sure what to pick, I’ve found two methods to help with that.
Not sure what to pick? Try this:
1. Have your significant other pick a number from 1 to X (x being the total number of movies on the list at the time) and that’s what you watch.
Or
2. Each of you picks a number between 1 and X. X represents the total number of movies on the list. You average them together to get your selection. Round decimals down to the nearest whole number.
So let’s say the list has 30 movies. Each of you picks a number between 1 and 30. You pick 7 and your spouse picks 20. The average is 13.5. So you would pick movie #13 on the list.

- Some Like It Hot
- Coco
- The Princess Bride
- Catch Me If You Can
- Young Frankenstein
- Shaun of The Dead
Other standouts include things like 12 Monkeys, Coherence, Last Night in SoHo, and Walk the Line. Even if you’ve seen some of these movies before, they’re pretty tame and were selected because there’s nothing too overtly uncomfortable about them. Sure, some of them might make things a little awkward here and there but it’s not like I’m putting House of 1000 Corpses or A Serbian Film on my recommendations.
