Sup, nerd?
Glad to have you here, make yourself comfortable. Grab a drink from the fridge if you want. Want to read blog 1? Here’s the link. The lore isn’t too deep right now, but you should go read it anyway. Do you ever have those crazy busy stretches at work that are punctuated by incredibly short, slow weeks? That’s been the extent of my May so far. Presentations, workshops, travel to different buildings, etc. I’ve still got a trip planned for Memorial Day weekend to go see my second oldest brother graduate from high school. Lots of things keep me busy and it’s really draining any energy I had left over for hobbies. My movie-watching streak has been shredded because I’ve been so tired and just uninterested. I think the last movie I saw was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
Do you keep track of the movies you’ve watched?
I do. I keep a Letterboxd diary, a Notion Database with categorical scores, AND a Moleskine notebook with a leather cover I bought off Etsy. Having a log full of notes and specific points is super helpful for an amateur critic like yours truly. But when I took my break, I kept writing my notes and scoring because that’s part of the data geek in me.
After consulitng the archives, I discovered that I watched at least 15 movies during the break so I’ve got quite a backlog to get through. Analysis paralysis is a real thing and I’d rather not spend hours trying to figure out which post would get the most engagement. So that’s where you come in. I added a form down below where you can pick your top 3 choices for my next post.
What else did you do during the break?
Great question, glad you asked. I’ve recently gotten onto this whole self-improvement kick and set a goal for myself to read 25 books in 2023 and I’m only on book 5 so far. I’ve read a few really good ones so far and it’s really making me remember why I was such a bookworm as a kid. If I wasn’t in school, I was typically stuck between the pages of a book or playing a Gameboy game. Those were the days. And here I am, 26 years old, getting into reading again and playing on an RG35XX retro emulator console. Time really is a flat circle. My brain feels kickstarted by massive amounts of imagination I’m having to use to envision these characters and landscapes. I think my quality of work and attitude towards daily life has really taken advantage of it.
If you love movies as much as I do, go pick up a book too. Get back into it if it’s fallen by the wayside. But before you do that, tell me what I should review next.
