Barry Review

Barry Berkman is a hitman from the mid-west with no ambition. He just goes where his handler tells him to go and pulls the trigger. But when Barry gets put on a job in L.A., he follows a target to an acting class and is roped into participating. It is after that class that Barry feels that he has finally found a purpose.

Bill Hader has been one of my favorite comedy actors since I saw him in Hot Rod about a million years ago. He plays the titular character with excellent comedic timing and delivery. Not only does he act, he also writes and directs several episodes. Each episode is packed with tension on par with Dexter or Breaking Bad and laughs like you can expect from Community. Each episode is a razor sharp story that takes only 30 minutes from start to finish. There isn’t a single bad episode through the 3 current seasons.

Barry has been renewed for a fourth season and is streaming on HBO Max.

Dylan created Movies Not Films as a fun project to stay occupied during the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. He started with a simple movie diary on a spreadsheet and eventually transformed it into with a robust catalog of reviews, suggestions, and ranking lists. Currently living with his now-fiancé and two dogs, Dylan has a full-time career but still makes time to watch all the latest movies and most of the new TV shows.
