This HBO mini series starring Kate Winslet and Evan Peters is one of the latest entries into the crime drama genre. It’s seven episode run is thrilling and compelling with enough twists and turns to keep even the most invested viewers guessing.
Kate Winslet stars as the titular Mare Sheehan of Easttown. Her life is haunted by the demons of her past and it has put a strain on her relationships with her coworkers, friends, and family. After the disappearance of a young woman in her hometown is revealed to possess similarities to a previous unsolved case, Mare begins to feel the stress of the cases as her personal life begins to crumble around her.
I am a sucker for a good crime drama and this is as good as any that I have seen. Kate Winslet and the supporting cast created such a believable small town chemistry that I couldn’t help but believe everything happening on screen. Evan Peters is a compelling supporting character that is serious, flawed, and believable. I enjoyed seeing him do something outside of his usual area of expertise. The whole series is just long enough to keep you entertained and finishes with a satisfying conclusion that doesn’t overstay its welcome.
Mare of Easttown is available to stream on HBO Max.
