Tremors

Starring Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, Tremors is an early 90’s creature film with equal parts cheese and weirdness.

Taking place in the small town of Perfection, Nevada (population: 14), Valentine “Val” McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) work odd jobs to make ends meet. One day they discover the body of the town drunkard stuck on the top of an electricity tower. While nobody in town is sure as to what chased the drunk up the tower, they are certain that something is amiss. That same day, a university student on an assignment to monitor the valley’s seismic activity begins to pick up strange, yet steady tremors (get it?) on her instruments and they seem to be moving closer to the small town.

Tremors is such a ridiculously bad movie that it can’t help end up being hilarious. It’s the type of movie that was made to have a cult following. As of April 27th, 2021, there are SIX full length sequels AND a tv series. Kevin Bacon did not return for any of the sequels, a mistake I’m sure he regrets to this day. I love watching bad movies to make fun of them and this is on par with some of the worst I’ve seen. It’s definitely worth the $3.99 to rent on Amazon for a bad movie night with your friends. I would love to see a kind of Alien vs. Predator type crossover with the graboids and something like Godzilla. Make it happen Warner Bros. I’m sure you can afford the rights to Tremors.
